In a neon-lit, mist-clad future city, Elle returns to the enigmatic Tower Hotel, where a fresh face meets her in the form of a young influencer named Hunter. Hunter has been stranded by the fog, and the two women—a poised, worldly actress and a bright-eyed newcomer—are drawn into a tense dynamic as they’re invited to stay in Elle’s family suite. The relationship tightens under the shadow of Dominique, Elle’s friend-turned-stepmother who has married Elle’s lecherous father, the infamous filmmaker Johnny Thunders.

Sinister dressmakers, Ms. S and Ms. T, add an unnerving atmosphere as they prick Elle with a pin, hinting at old-school bad luck rituals. The plot thickens when Johnny reveals a village legend—the Leatherman, a murderous spirit who stalks the mist and wears diamond gloves, seemingly impervious to most threats except for the odd, brutal weakness of severing his hands. Elle clings to the hope that the film she’s making with her father could bridge the gulf between them, but the reunion is disrupted when Johnny departs, urging Elle to bury the hatchet with Dominique.

The fog-laden night erupts into violence as the Leatherman slaughters a neighbor, tearing her chest open and hurling her body from a window. Undeterred, the pair keep filming Johnny’s sci‑fi project: Elle’s character crash-lands on a crystal planet, only to be betrayed by Dominique. Hunter interrupts the shoot to share her research on the Leatherman—often seen as a devil—and on the “Kingmakers,” a pair of kitsune who serve as his guides. A birthday gift, a golden hatchet left by Johnny, leads Elle to a forgotten leather jacket and a cigarette lighter belonging to Private K, a former American G.I. who once patrolled Japan.

Decades earlier, [Private K] believed the Leatherman was responsible for his daughter’s disappearance and dedicated years to finding him. He fights a yakuza boss and is flogged by the police, his resolve unbroken. The Leatherman’s kitsune reveal that his daughter may still be alive, and K learns that killing the Leatherman could free her. After a brutal ambush, K defeats the yakuza only to be drawn through a mirror into the Leatherman’s ghostly, crystalline realm.

On Elle’s birthday, Dominique brings Elle and Hunter to a party with Johnny’s rival, Nico. Dominique confesses she has slept with Nico, complicating her marriage to Johnny, and Elle, in a moment of fragility, kisses Dominique before turning her attention to Nico. The two later share a charged moment, and Elle is drawn to Nico as well. Meanwhile, in the other realm, K watches helplessly as Hunter is killed by the Leatherman.

Back at the hotel, a bitter confrontation erupts when Elle stuffs Dominique’s mouth with underwear, and the quarrel spirals into violence. The Leatherman appears again, killing Dominique and pursuing Elle into the crystal realm. In the other world, K faces the Leatherman in a fierce struggle and is nearly defeated, but Elle rises and cuts off the Leatherman’s hands with the hatchet. The spirit dissolves, and K is finally reunited with his daughter. The kitsune present Elle with the Leatherman’s gloves, offering a chance to > “find what [she] has lost.”
