As an adult, Sid’s mother Sherry Lawrence dies, casting a long shadow over his present life. He collects his lost bag at an airport, where a young woman from a publishing house tells him she read his diary and believes he is a talented writer, stirring memories he had kept buried. He then travels to India to sell his mother’s cottage in Kasauli, and as he steps into the familiar town, he finds himself confronted by a past that has haunted him for years.

In a flashback, the four self-proclaimed cowboys devise a plan to welcome their hero Sam. They head to the station to greet him, and Sid crosses paths with Nayantara Sapru. The mood shifts from playful mischief to something heavier as the group heads home, only to be halted by a black car. After a frantic chase, it is revealed that the car belongs to Sam. He apologizes to Zizo and promises to fix his father’s car.

They kick off a reckless stretch of fun, partying and even tossing eggs at houses, as the bond among the friends—and the bond between Sam and Sid’s family—seems unbreakable. Sam’s relationship with Sid’s mother is notably strong, a connection that threads through their carefree weeks. Yet beneath the laughter lies the weight of history: Sam’s father left him when he was six, and in the wake of that upheaval, his mother turned to alcohol and remarried, shaping Sam’s fragile world in painful ways.

After a few days, Sid runs into Nayantara in a music store and begins to fall for her. In another moment of fate, Sam meets Nayantara in a club, and he too falls for her, this time alongside her sister, with Bobby seen dancing nearby. The lines between past and present blur as the narration circles back to the past and the friendships that defined it.

The flashbacks gradually reveal a painful truth: Sam’s suicide stems from a troubled past and the complex relationship with his mother, not from Sid. This realization lifts a weight from Sid, allowing him to see that the blame he carried was misplaced. With this new understanding, Sid and Nayantara find a way to reconnect.

Back in the present, the old crew gathers again, sharing memories of the moments they cherished with one another and with their friend Sam. If Sam were alive, they reflect, this is exactly what he would have wanted: a reunion that honors the enduring nature of true friendship. In the end, the story affirms that some bonds endure forever, stitching together joy, guilt, forgiveness, and the quiet hope that the past can illuminate a gentler path forward.
