In the picturesque port of Marseille, a touching story unfolds centered around Madelon, a beautiful young woman who is deeply in love with Marius, a talented young sailor preparing to embark on a three-year voyage at sea. Madelon is also loved by Honore Panisse, a kindly and well-to-do sailmaker in his fifties, who has harbored feelings for her for quite some time.
