Fourteen-year-old Dannie Dannie Helen Loraine Knowles has been having recurring, cryptic, and unsettling nightmares. She soon discovers that a waterborne disease caused by bacteria is spreading, and she feels a chilling connection between her dreams and the growing outbreak. As the illness evolves into an epidemic, it becomes clear that the pathogen not only kills those it infects but also turns them into zombies. Dannie and some of her middle school peers: Sam [Alec Herskowitz], Christine [Tiger Darrow], Stacey [Alex Schroeder], and Cameron [Tony Vespe] set out to understand the mystery and search for a cure, all while dodging the undead. During a frantic confrontation at Dannie’s house, Stacey is transformed into a zombie. After escaping, the group meets a woman named Sue [Rebecca Elliott], who had ties to the company that accidentally created the infection while trying to find a cancer cure. Sue and a reluctant Cameron head to a convenience store to gather supplies, while the rest wait. After they take too long, the group goes to search for them and discovers Cameron dead and Sue missing. An argument reveals Christine’s betrayal and that Sam has carried the infection all along. Sam kills Christine to prevent further harm, and Dannie is forced to kill and decapitate Sam, a heartbreaking choice to save him from turning. Moments after fleeing the store, Dannie is attacked by a swarm of zombies, and the survivors in the story meet their end as the crisis consumes them.
