What Is Othon About?
The premise of Othon without spoilers.
Straub‑Huillet’s first color film adapts Corneille’s 1664 tragedy, derived from a Tacitus episode. Filmed among the Palatine Hill ruins, an amateur, toga‑clad cast delivers the French text against the hum of urban life. Dialogue is rendered with flatness and heavy accents, turning language into a palpable element that foregrounds deeper qualities.
