OSS 117: From Africa with Love (2021): Cast, Ratings & Box Office

The visual and production design of the film is generally solid, showcasing a colorful palette and well‑crafted exotic settings. Critics highlight the excellent production quality and striking set pieces as strengths. However, some reviewers point out uneven CGI and moments where the look feels cheap compared to earlier installments. Overall, the artistic execution is competent but inconsistent, leading to a respectable yet imperfect rating.

Jean Dujardin’s performance receives consistent praise for its comedic timing and charismatic presence. Supporting cast members are noted as less effective, with some characters described as grotesque or lacking depth. Chemistry among the ensemble is frequently called weak, and dialogue is considered flat by several reviewers. While the lead anchors the film, the overall character dynamics fall short of delivering sustained engagement.

The narrative is viewed as the film’s weakest element, with pacing described as dragging and humor uneven. Some appreciate its spoof of classic spy tropes, yet many find the plot repetitive and lacking originality. Critics mention forced subplots, especially involving the new agent, and a climax that feels unresolved. Consequently, the story is deemed uneven and less compelling than previous entries.

Sensory aspects receive moderate commendation, with the aesthetic praised for its vibrant color palette and evocative locations. Sound design is not heavily criticized, implying adequacy, while occasional low‑budget CGI draws negative remarks. The overall audiovisual experience is enjoyable, though marred by sporadic technical slip‑ups that prevent a higher rating.

Replay value is limited by the film’s uneven humor and narrative drag, reducing its appeal for repeat viewings. Fans of Dujardin’s performance may be inclined to revisit the movie, and some find enough charm to warrant a second watch. Nonetheless, the lack of consistently engaging jokes and story depth curtails broader rewatch enthusiasm.
