Once Upon a Time in Hong Kong 2021

In the shadowy streets of 1970s Hong Kong, corruption has become a sweeping tide, with police graft at the very heart of it all. At the top of this illicit empire stand the notorious figures Chui Lok, Francis Ng, a seasoned chief detective who embodies the system’s rot, and Crippled Ho, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, a triad lord whose drug-fueled power has cushioned decades of crime. Together, they’ve colluded for more than ten years, amassing fortunes that feel untouchable and prompting a city to wonder if justice can ever break free from their grasp.

Enter Hank Chan, Louis Koo, a lawyer who has always despised corruption and believes that poverty is the quiet engine that blasts citizens’ rights wide open to exploitation. His sharp conscience sets him on a collision course with the very system he discovers himself within, and a chance reunion with Nash Pak, Gordon Lam Ka-Tung, a former college classmate who has just returned from Britain, changes the tempo of his life. Pak is swept up by Chan’s unwavering integrity and extends a bold invitation: join the governor’s newly formed Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and help build a new shield against the rot that gnaws at the city.
