Gene York, a Virginia congressman, and his attorney wife Karen York welcome a new family member when they adopt a child named Delia from a nun-owned orphanage run by Sister Yvonne. At first, Delia’s arrival seems ordinary, aside from a few unsettling moments—Delia scratches Karen during baptism preparations, and the preacher overseeing the ceremony suffers a heart attack—but the surface calm soon proves fragile. The couple also brings home a rottweiler they name Ryder, a detail that will loom large as Delia grows.

Seven years pass, and Delia begins to reveal increasingly disturbing traits. She grows into a charming yet coldly calculating presence, and the Yorks’ family doctor, Dr. Hastings, notes that Delia is approaching puberty. Around this time, a string of eerie events begins to unfold: a boy’s father dies under troubling circumstances after Delia’s influence, and mysterious things happen around the house. Jo Thueson, a New Age practitioner hired to help while [Gene York] runs for the Senate, starts to sense that something is profoundly wrong with the girl. Jo, aided by her friend, an aura reader named Noah, becomes determined to understand Delia’s true nature.

To help with the investigation, Jo takes Delia to a bustling fair where psychics sense a heavy, uneasy energy surrounding the girl. An aura photograph of Delia shows a disturbing spectrum of dark colors, foreshadowing danger. When Jo presses for answers, Delia’s ominous power seems to intensify: she causes a fire at the fair that rages out of control. Noah warns Jo to depart, but Jo remains compelled to uncover the truth behind the girl’s malevolent aura. In a brutal turn, Jo learns Delia’s devastating true identity, yet before she can share what she knows, she is hurled from a window by Ryder. Karen, who witnesses the fall, collapses in shock and is later told she is pregnant.

With Karen increasingly unsettled, she seeks counsel from Father Mattson, the local preacher. He explains, in stark terms, the looming threat of the Antichrist. Eight months pass, and Karen learns that Sister Yvonne left the orphanage around the time Delia was adopted, adding to the mystery surrounding Delia’s origins. Karen hires a detective, Earl Knight, to locate Delia’s biological parents. Knight’s search leads him to Charlotte, North Carolina, where Sister Yvonne now goes by the name Felicity. In Felicity’s trailer, Knight discovers clippings about Gene and Delia, and the detective’s breakthrough comes at a terrible cost: he is killed in a bizarre construction accident after presenting Karen with a crucial photograph and a warning that aligns with the darkest possibilities of the girl’s power. Knight’s death leaves Karen with little time to piece together the larger pattern of events, but it becomes clear that Delia is tied to a chilling prophecy and to Damien Thorn, the infamous figure some associate with the coming apocalypse.

As the investigation deepens, Karen’s paranoia grows alongside her conviction that Delia is connected to the antichrist legend. She gives birth to a son, Alexander, and returns home with a new nanny, Lisa Roselli. The more Karen learns, the more dangerous Delia appears to become, and Hastings’s dark influence in the background is revealed to be a Satanic snare influencing events around Delia and Alexander. Confronting Hastings, Karen discovers the full, horrific truth: Delia is Damien Thorn’s daughter, and she is designed to be the protector of a newborn Antichrist—her twin brother Alexander, conceived through Hastings’s betrayal and implanted into Karen.

The revelations spiral toward violence. Karen shoots Hastings, then returns home with Hastings’s gun and kills Roselli in a confrontation that centers on Delia’s power. The infant Alexander sits in the room, a stark reminder of the prophecy as Delia’s palm bears a visible 666 symbol, signaling the ominous role she plays in the looming conflict. The tension finally drives Karen to an irreversible act: she takes her own life, having faced the weights of fate and the terrifying truth about her children. In the aftermath, Gene, Delia, and Alexander attend Karen’s funeral, a quiet, haunting coda to a family undone by the forces they sought to resist.
