Sandhya, a medical student, falls in love at first sight with Surya, a young man who harbors political ambitions. Surya runs small-time settlements as he waits for a real chance to contest in local elections. Sandhya understands that the path ahead won’t be easy when she sees Surya roughing up people from time to time. Her mother urges Surya to leave politics for her daughter, but Surya refuses and stays the course to fulfill his father’s dream of seeing his son as an MLA. One of the settlements escalates into a more serious incident, and an FIR for SC/ST atrocities is filed against Surya, leading to his arrest. After this, Sandhya resolves to wait for him, but her mother persuades her to move from Vijaya Nagaram to Vizag in hopes of forgetting him.

Three years pass, and Surya is released on bail thanks to influence from his uncle, an MLA belonging to the opposition in Vizag. Surya seeks to settle the case by means of a compromise, only to learn that a friend betrayed him, becoming an approver and later a municipal chairman of Vijayanagara district. He confronts him, which sparks a fight and worsens the situation. Surya’s father appoints Satya, a practical man with little sentiment, as his advisor; the two form a strong, loyal partnership. In Vizag, Surya reconnects with Sandhya and advises her to leave because there’s no guarantee of his future, but she refuses, promising to wait for him forever. Satya backs her decision and tells Surya to keep their relationship a secret until the case is resolved. Surya and Sandhya begin a live-in relationship, and Surya starts helping in his uncle’s election campaign.

During the campaign, someone begins attacking Surya’s uncle, who had hoped for an MLA ticket but was refused due to lack of funds. Surya protects his uncle and defeats the attacker, which makes Satya realize that Surya’s outbursts are tied to his frustration about Sandhya. Impressed, Surya’s uncle offers him a chance to contest as MLA and to become his political heir on one condition: that Surya marry his daughter, a spoilt divorcée. Surya’s father and Satya support the plan, hoping it will resolve the legal trouble and secure his ambitions. Surya, however, refuses to betray Sandhya, even as he lies to her, telling her that his bail had been cancelled and that they should start a new life apart. Sandhya refuses to listen and declares she will wait.

Later, through Surya’s father, Sandhya learns the truth about his situation. She decides to leave him but sets two conditions: he must achieve his ambition, and she asks him to spend a couple of days with her before they part, which he agrees to do. After those two days, in the morning, Surya wakes to find Sandhya has committed suicide. He discovers a note stating that she fulfilled their dreams with him and will wait for him in the next life. The film ends with Surya standing at her grave, haunted by their memories.
