Mia and Nico make the harrowing decision to flee Spain due to a dire crisis, which has led to a scarcity of essential supplies and an oppressive government regime. Fearing for their safety and the well-being of their unborn child, they are haunted by the past loss of their first daughter, Uma, who was taken by the military and is presumed dead. Filled with guilt over Uma’s disappearance, Mia struggles under the weight of her grief.

Nico devises a desperate plan for their escape: they will stow away on a cargo ship bound for Ireland. As they manage to conceal themselves in a container for transport, their plan quickly unravels. When the military intervenes, they are violently separated, and while Nico is forced out of their hiding spot, Mia remains trapped as the soldiers execute everyone else in the container. To her horror, she survives only by hiding atop a pile of crates. She desperately tries to reach Nico to warn him of their impending doom but cannot connect with him.

All the containers—including Mia’s—are transported to a ship, but soon disaster strikes as a storm causes chaos and they tumble into the sea. Inside her rapidly flooding container filled with various items like Tupperware and packaged electronics, Mia’s survival instincts kick in. She cleverly uses a drill, some tape, and a penknife she salvaged to aid her in the struggle against the elements.

During the ordeal, she becomes aware of a sinking container filled with desperate souls nearby and helplessly watches as they succumb to the water. After enduring two grueling days alone, a glimmer of hope arises when Nico manages to call, indicating he is on his way to rescue her.

On a stormy night, Mia unexpectedly gives birth to a daughter, Noa, amplifying her will to survive despite the physical and emotional turmoil ravaging her. Overcome with hallucinations of Uma, she finds herself resorting to extreme measures to stay alive, including eating her placenta. As the water level rises inside the container, determined to escape, she punctures the roof and climbs to the top, attempting to signal a passing airplane, ultimately injuring herself in the process.

After enduring weeks of solitude and struggle, Nico’s call brings devastating news: he has been injured and has a very slim chance of survival. Heartbroken yet resolute, Mia shares news of their newborn, inspiring Nico to encourage her to keep fighting and make it to Ireland with their child.

Using her resourcefulness, Mia constructs a makeshift raft as her container sinks, hoping for a miracle to save her and Noa. Finally, her persistence pays off when a family aboard a fishing boat spots the floating raft. However, Mia is found unconscious and tied to it. They perform CPR, successfully reviving her and bringing her and Noa safely to the shores of Ireland, embodying resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.
