Set against the chaotic backdrop of the Korean War, Italian nurse Virna Lisi becomes involved with two American pilots, Tony Curtis and George C. Scott. During the Korean War, Italian nurse Lieutenant Julietta Perodi Virna Lisi, who has a penchant for everything in twos, falls for two United States Air Force pilots: Col. Tom Ferris Tony Curtis and Col. “Tank” Martin George C. Scott. Julietta agrees to marry Ferris after he convinces her that his friend Tank has been killed in an aircraft crash. She soon discovers that Martin is alive, but remains happily married to Ferris until, fourteen years later, Martin—her former love—re-enters their lives.
In London, Ferris serves as a military attaché, dealing with the brass, including General Parker Carroll O’Connor. Martin leverages his influence to have Ferris assigned to Labrador for an Arctic survival course, prompting Julietta to consider divorce as the marriage strains under Ferris’s easygoing life. In a daring gambit, Ferris adopts the guise of an Arab potentate and steals a VIP jet, piloting it to Rome to reconcile with his wife.
Two years on, the Ferris family grows with twin boys, while Ferris continues to smooth the path for VIPs, including Tank Martin, who is now flying with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. The story threads together romance, loyalty, and the pressures of public life, tracing how love can endure, bend, and reconfigure in the shadow of duty and ambition.
