The film opens with young Ritu bringing her friend Jia to spend the holidays with her at her home in Kerala, a place where the natural beauty frames a close-knit family life. Vijay Anand and Amrita raise their family in a warm home surrounded by lush landscapes; he is a photographer and she tends the house and the household, sharing a quiet rhythm of daily life.

Jia’s mother lives in Australia; Jia’s parents are divorced, and she studies in India. She is a free-spirited teenager with no attachments and no worries, exuding a charm that hints at affection for Vijay, though its trajectory doesn’t go beyond a light, friendly pull.

But when Vijay photographs Jia as she waters the garden with the hose, the scene triggers something unforeseen. A moment of innocence grows into something more complicated, and that escalation spirals beyond control.

Jia’s world collides with Vijay’s, and the consequences ripple through the house, described as three casualties in the narration. Ritu witnesses Vijay and Jia sharing a kiss and tries to usher Jia out of the home without telling Jia’s mother the truth, but she fails to keep the matter hidden.

Around this time, Amrita’s brother Shridhar visits. Through a sequence of events, he uncovers the troubling truth about Jia and Vijay, challenging Vijay’s relationship with Jia and revealing the stakes involved. Shridhar questions Vijay and comes to realize that the situation between Jia and Vijay is serious.

Vijay confesses his love for Jia to Amrita, leaving her devastated and unsure how to respond to the situation. In response, Shridhar guides Vijay to reflect on Jia’s younger age and the vulnerability that can be misread as affection, a lesson that emphasizes how even a small gesture can be misinterpreted as love.

Vijay comes to understand the gravity of the problem and orders Jia to leave the house, a decision that deepens the pain within the family. This rift hardens the trust between Vijay, Ritu, and Amrita, who both lose faith in him.

The fallout drives Ritu to move to America, while Vijay finds himself returning to confront Shridhar again, facing the reality that his actions have fractured the trust of both his wife and daughter. In his introspection, he wrestles with thoughts of mortality but resolves not to surrender to despair; instead, he clings to the memory of Jia, hoping to live on through those memories.
