Nikka, Nikka, comes from a wealthy landlord family in rural Punjab and studies at a college in Patiala. He notices Manraj and feels a spark, but she makes it clear that she would only marry someone chosen by her family, not a love match. To bridge the gap between desire and tradition, Nikka enlists the help of his friend Bhola to mediate with both families, hoping to win their support without jeopardizing his education or status. Yet the path is rocky from the start: his grandmother remains wary, insisting that he is too young to marry while he is still a student. In a bid to show he’s serious, Nikka drops out of college, thinking this drastic move might sway her, but the old guard remains unmoved.

Desperation leads Nikka to pull a harmless but risky deception. He pretends to have an affair with a woman named Shanti, whom his grandmother strongly disapproves of as a match, in order to push her toward reconsidering Manraj as a viable option. When the smoke clears, the plan backfires in comical fashion, and Nikka must confront the consequences of his ruse. Undeterred, he sends Bhola again with a new proposal, this time from a wealthier and more prestigious family. The grandmother, swayed by the prospect, agrees to forward a marriage proposal to Manraj’s family. However, a mix-up occurs: the family believes the proposal is for Manraj’s older sister Seerat, not for Manraj herself. As a result, Nikka finds himself engaged to Seerat, a match neither of them desires, and both are determined to find a way out, though social and familial pressures complicate any easy breakup.

Meanwhile, the emotional center of the story shifts as Nikka and Manraj begin to fall for each other. He cleverly convinces her that the original proposal was meant for her and not for Seerat, opening the door to real affection between them. With few other options left, the two lovers take a bold step and run away together, sparking a lively cascade of misadventures and misunderstandings in both households. The escape provokes a series of comic errors that ripple through families on opposite sides of the social divide, creating tension, jealousy, and humor in equal measure.

As the clock ticks, the lovers begin to see that love must coexist with responsibility. They eventually decide to return home, hoping to repair the fault lines their actions created.
