During a college trip, Sita Raichand Waheeda Rehman and her friends set out on a routine excursion, but a dangerous moment unfolds when she sleepwalks toward a railway track. Ram Manoj Kumar intervenes just in time, pulling her away from danger and saving her life. The incident leaves a lasting impression on Sita’s father, the stern Mr. Raichand Balraj Sahni, who quickly decides that his daughter should marry the brave savior. After the wedding, Sita discovers that her sleepwalking is not merely a quirky habit. In this ancestral dream, Chitrasen Raaj Kumar is an artisan who loved a princess named Neel Kamal (who is Sita in her present life). The bond between Chitrasen and Neel Kamal is tragically broken when the king rejects their union. As punishment, Chitrasen is buried alive, yet his love endures beyond death. The centuries pass, and his soul remains restless, clinging to the hope of reunion.

Meanwhile, Sita’s new family life grows tense. Her mother-in-law, the stern Thakurain Lalita Pawar, suspects that Sita’s sleepless wanderings point to infidelity, and she makes life difficult at home. Chanchal, Sita’s sister-in-law, shares in the tension, creating a hostile environment that pushes Sita toward despair. In the midst of this, Giridhar, Chanchal’s husband who lives as a ghar jamai, steps forward as a rare source of support. With the help of a kind Pujari David Abraham Cheulkar, Giridhar helps Sita avoid ending her life, offering a glimmer of hope in a house full of suspicion and strain.

Sita’s anxious father comes to Ram’s house, hoping to claim his daughter once more, having already informed Ram of her sleepwalking in the past. But Ram’s family, believing Sita might be lost to them, plan a second wedding for Ram. In a pivotal moment, Giridhar quietly reveals to Ram that Sita is alive and even pregnant, turning the course of events and forcing the family to confront the truth buried beneath layers of worry and tradition.

One fateful night, as a train travels along the tracks, Sita reaches the same Chitrapur station and pulls the chain to halt the train. She finds herself at the doorstep of Chitrasen’s final resting place, where the two speak in a fleeting, haunting exchange that echoes across time. Chitrasen’s immortal soul appears to have one last chance at reunion, and as their conversation clarifies the bond between past and present, his soul is finally freed. Sita collapses, and Ram, ever watchful, acts quickly to rescue her. In the wake of these events, Sita and Ram find a renewed sense of belonging and mutual devotion, and they begin a life together filled with hope and happiness, their histories entwined and reconciled at last.
