Mystery Team 2009

As the Mystery Team—consisting of “Master of Disguise” Jason Rogers, “Boy Genius” Duncan Wheeler, and the “Strongest Kid in town” Charlie Day (Dominic Dierkes)—embarks on their journey as amateur detectives, they find themselves grappling with the trials of adolescence. Specializing in cases that cater to children, such as locating lost pets and retrieving stolen baseball cards, these three friends have upheld an innocent charm, even as high school graduation looms on the horizon. Their persistent focus on youthful misdeeds often leaves parents and adults exasperated, questioning when the trio will mature beyond their juvenile antics.

However, as they approach adulthood, the Mystery Team is presented with a pivotal case that will challenge their detective skills. Local girl Brianna seeks their help in solving a double homicide—the tragic deaths of her parents. Driven by a desire to prove their worth, Jason convinces his friends Duncan and Charlie to dive into the investigation, framing it as an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. Despite some initial hesitation, Jason’s persuasive charm encourages them to uncover the truth behind the grim event.

Their quest leads them to Kelly, Brianna’s older sister, who cautions them to let the professionals handle the investigation. However, undeterred by her words, Jason rallies his friends to hunt for clues. They reconnect with an acquaintance, Jordy, who hints at a local vagrant named Sam, rumored to have vital information about the case. Their search takes them to Kelly’s house and uncovers a mysterious card from Sam, driving the team to a nearby bowling alley where they meet Dougie, a figure entwined in the investigation.

The pursuit of Dougie leads them to a disreputable gentlemen’s club, where the bouncer attempts to expel them for snooping. Yet, their quick thinking allows them to eavesdrop and discover that Kelly’s ring has passed through many hands, ultimately ending up in the least expected location—the stripper’s toilet bowl. With the ring recovered and their cover compromised, Jason, Duncan, and Charlie make a hasty exit, leaving chaos in their wake and a growing uncertainty about Brianna’s tragic loss.

Once the ring is returned to its rightful owner, a new lead unfolds as Jordy reveals information about Dougie and the notorious Leroy Maddox, a dangerous drug dealer connected to the local lumberyard. With this intelligence, they gear up to infiltrate Leroy’s operation, masquerading as prospective buyers. Meanwhile, Jason stealthily listens in on a chilling phone call between Leroy and an unknown individual regarding crucial documents. Their investigation takes an alarming turn when they discover a shocking truth about a toxic substance named Iphedolene hidden within Leroy’s dealings.

Their moment of respite is short-lived, as Leroy confronts the team at Kelly’s residence, taking them hostage in a menacing showdown. Amid the ensuing turmoil, Jason finds an escape route, gaining Kelly’s heartfelt gratitude as he vows to reveal the truth to the authorities. Reunited with Duncan and Charlie amidst the looming threat of Leroy, they stumble upon a gruesome discovery at the lumberyard: the deceased bodies of Leroy and his girlfriend. Unbeknownst to him, Robert has commandeered a walkie-talkie meant for communicating with Kelly. During his time at the corporation, Jason forges an unexpected camaraderie with two employees as they share tales of their escapades while offering him advice about winning over Kelly.

Operating under the cover of night, Jason uncovers Robert’s nefarious plan: he is using the toxic Iphedolene in wood treatment, a scheme that Kelly’s father was determined to expose before being silenced by the vicious Leroy. In a desperate bid to thwart Robert, Jason confides in Duncan and Charlie, leading to their reunion as they plot to rescue Kelly from Robert’s grasp. A tense standoff unfolds at the lumberyard, where Robert’s ulterior motives are unveiled; as combat erupts, Jason faces life-threatening gunfire, but Charlie’s quick reflexes help them escape.

Though injured, Jason finds solace in Kelly’s unwavering support and budding affection. Months later, as he recuperates from these harrowing events, Jason emerges with renewed purpose in the realm of medical technologies. Brianna now lives with his parents, and Kelly pursues an academic path at Dartmouth College.
