Based on Samad Vurgun’s Komsomol poem, the story follows seven young men likened to samurai who become Komsomol activists sent to a village to establish Soviet power. They are depicted as romanticized heroes of the people, ready to take vengeance for their cause.

In 1920 Azerbaijan, seven young communists are sent by the revolutionary committee to the remote village of Peykanli, a place ruled by the powerful landowner Keraj bej who stubbornly resists the new Soviet government. Led by Bakhtiyar, Hasan Mammadov, the group faces the harsh reality of resistance on the ground as they arrive in the tense borderlands where loyalty, fear, and ambition collide. The setting is stark and intimate, with the landscape pressing in on the characters as they commit to a risky mission that could alter the fate of the region.
Within this volatile clash, a tragic love story unfolds between Jalal, Anvar Hasanov, a communist poet, and Humay, Zemfira Ismailova, Keraj bej’s daughter. Humay returns Jalal’s love, yet she is torn between her heart and the weight of her father’s will, creating an emotional tension that runs parallel to the political struggle surrounding them. The romance is tender and sincere, offering a human counterpoint to the broader conflict.
Jalal faces Keraj bej in a direct confrontation, openly admitting that their paths remain enemies even as he professes his love for Humay. The moment is charged with defiance and longing, a powerful clash of personal devotion against the backdrop of a mounting struggle for power. In a brutal act of authority, Keraj bej kills Jalal with his own hands, a devastating blow that reverberates through Peykanli and beyond.
The news of Jalal’s death shatters Humay, and she dies of grief, her fate mirroring the personal losses that accompany political upheaval. The violence of the conflict takes a heavy toll: five of the seven communists are killed, leaving Bakhtiyar as the lone survivor who must decide how to carry forward the fallen comrades’ vision. He does not walk alone, however; he is joined by six young villagers from Peykanli who are inspired to continue the revolutionary effort.
With resilience as their guide, they set out on a renewed mission, traveling through villages as Azerbaijan undergoes the Bolshevik takeover and the Soviet project expands. Their goal is to establish and strengthen Soviet power, grounding their efforts in the very village that sparked the conflict. The story thickens around Peykanli, where the personal costs of upheaval are laid bare and the struggle for a new order is refracted through intimate, human experiences.
Throughout the narrative, themes of sacrifice, loyalty, and the cost of political change are explored with a steady, measured tone. The film roots its sweeping historical moment in small, poignant moments—glimpses of tenderness between lovers, the weight of commands given and disobeyed, and the stubborn endurance of a community trying to find its place in a rapidly changing world.
