Arvīds Lasmanis can’t keep a job because he refuses deceit and shoddy work. To support his family he lands a well‑paid gravedigging post, then, with a friend’s help, joins a construction crew where his principled stance alienates the other workers. His wife blames him for lack of money and they live crammed in a single‑room flat. This Soviet absurd comedy follows a man who, despite clashing with the system, refuses to sacrifice his conscience or true self for wealth and comfort.
