Margaret Morgan, a wealthy New York socialite, is left frustrated by how her husband John watches their daughter Brenda drift through reckless crowds. To restore order, she recruits former criminals Maisie O’Donnell and Butch Grogan to serve as house staff, hoping their street-smarts will keep things in line. The arrangement unsettles John, but it sets the stage for a more formal household routine. When Brenda ends up in court again for reckless driving, Margaret decides to push for a more legitimate path and brings in Muggs McGinnis Leo Gorcey to take on a real job as a chauffeur. Muggs arrives with the whole East Side Kids gang, and they’re put to work polishing the family cars. The group’s arrival nudges the Morgan home toward discipline, while Muggs himself receives a rough-edged coaching in etiquette. Joining the mix is Glimpy Freedhoff [Huntz Hall], a member of the gang, who picks up the new rules alongside the others as they settle into the household rhythm.

At Brenda’s engagement party with her conservative fiancé Virgil, Muggs and the gang handle the catering and service duties, quietly showing that they can function with a sense of propriety. During the party, a guest discovers a missing diamond necklace, and John immediately suspects the East Side Kids. Yet the guests remember seeing a stranger in the room, a lead Maisie recalls from a prior night at Danceland. The tension mounts as the story threads toward uncovering the truth behind the theft and the stranger’s identity.

Maisie heads downtown with Brenda to Danceland, where Brenda dresses up like a gangster’s moll to blend in with the crowd. There they encounter Dips Nolan [Gabriel Dell], who has plotted the heist with Diamonds, the mysterious stranger from the party. Nolan grows wary when Virgil—who has followed Brenda—asks him to stage a fake fight to prove his mettle. Instead, Nolan knocks Virgil out and abducts Brenda, escalating the danger and pushing Muggs and the gang to act. Muggs and Glimpy become further embroiled as they track the raft of clues back to the dance hall and its shady connections.

In a tense series of moves, Muggs and the rest of the East Side Kids close in on the criminals: they raid Nolan’s apartment, retrieve the diamonds, and bring the culprits to justice. When Brenda is recovered, she’s pleased to see that Virgil’s night-life adventure has transformed him into a more confident, bolder presence. The case concludes with the gang’s resourcefulness and teamwork turning a potentially damaging scandal into a reaffirmation of trust, duty, and the idea that people can change for the better when given a chance.
