Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms 2021

Following the fallout of the previous Mortal Kombat tournament, Shao Kahn, Fred Tatasciore declares an outright war on Earthrealm and pushes forward a fresh Mortal Kombat contest staged in Outworld, cast to decide once and for all who rules the realms.

Kitana, Kintaro, and D’Vorah lead the Emperor’s first wave, rallying Outworld forces to strike the Wu Shi monastery. The attack is bold and brutal, but it is met head-on by Kung Lao, Matthew Yang King, the cybernetically enhanced Jackson Briggs, and NYPD officer Sonya Blade, Jennifer Carpenter. He is soon joined by Liu Kang, Jordan Rodrigues, and Raiden, the thunder god who has watched over Earthrealm for ages. Together they push to broker a truce, even as Shao Kahn himself steps into the fray, demanding Raiden join a final, decisive tournament that will determine the fate of all realms. The Elder Gods themselves become involved as they contemplate a contest with curses and consequences that reach beyond a single battle.

Back in the Netherrealm, Scorpion awakens to a world of new threats. He confronts Shinnok, the Netherrealm’s vengeful elder god, who manipulates Scorpion’s body and soul to serve his own scheme. The plan hinges on delivering a crucial key—one embedded within Scorpion—to the right hands in the earthly realm, while the Lin Kuei clan is drawn into a dangerous game. The grandmaster summons Kuai Liang, the Lin Kuei’s skilled warrior who has chosen to walk a stubborn path of rebellion; he assumes the alias Sub-Zero to challenge the order that once defined his clan. The Lin Kuei’s alarms sound as they glimpse the danger their cybernetic upgrades bring, realizing that the cost of power may be higher than any victory.

At the tournament’s start, a brutal sequence of bouts reveals the shifting balance of power. Cage is defeated by a kytinn warrior, D’Vorah, while Sonya defeats D’Vorah and Li Mei in quick succession. Liu Kang proves his prowess by overcoming Jade, and Stryker defeats Baraka in a clash that underscores the fragility of alliances. Jax Briggs defeats the intimidating Kintaro by tearing his arms from their sockets, a visceral reminder of what the tournament has become.

As the second half of the final contest unfolds, the battles grow personal and fatal. In a bold act of defiance, Kitana rebels against her stepfather and assaults Shao Kahn, though she is beaten back. The Elder Gods rally to counter the cataclysm, and an uneasy trio—Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Liu Kang—engage in a fierce struggle to end Shinnok’s reign. Johnny, Jax, Kitana, and Sonya stand guard to protect civilians from the remnants of Kahn’s formidable army.

In the aftermath, Liu Kang absorbs the One Being’s power and restores the realms to their former harmony, bringing Edenia back into balance. Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage share a kiss, a sign of renewed hope and lasting friendship, while Liu Kang and Kitana clasp hands in a fragile, earned peace. The final image hints at a new dawn: Raiden is revived, retaining his mortal journey and its promise of renewed vitality, a reminder that even gods can be tempered by human courage and sacrifice.
