Missing 2018

The film opens with Sushant Dubey preparing to embark on a business trip. He arrives at a Mauritius resort with his wife Aparna Dubey and their 3-year-old daughter Titli. Sushant negotiates an upgrade from a single room to a double, and the family settles in. After a quiet moment together, the sounds of the resort hint at something unsettling as a man in the room below is shown creeping about.

When Titli goes missing in the middle of the night, tension spikes. It’s soon clear that Sushant and Aparna are not married to each other; they met on the ferry to Mauritius. Sushant is trapped in an unhappy marriage, while Aparna is divorced. They grew close, and Aparna agrees to stay a few more days with him, a decision that could threaten both their reputations and the resort’s image. The resort manager and staff try to keep the affair under wraps, but the crisis erupts once Aparna calls the police.

Inspector Buddhu begins the formal investigation. The CCTV footage initially points to the creepy neighbor who has since checked out of the hotel. A televised photo of the neighbor leads to a sighting in town with another girl, but Aparna identifies that the girl isn’t Titli, and the man reveals that the child is his own daughter from a previous custody arrangement. A sketch artist produces two drawings based on separate descriptions from Aparna and Sushant, and the portraits diverge, underscoring the growing confusion and tension.

Under intense questioning, Sushant offers a painful confession: Aparna could not bear children, and Titli may be a hallucination tied to Aparna’s mental strain. In a later moment, Sushant tells Aparna that he cannot sustain the deception any longer. He also confesses to Buddhu that he and Aparna are not married and that Titli’s existence may be more fragile than anyone realized.

Back in their room, Sushant tells Aparna that he cannot continue the ruse. He later confesses to Buddhu that he did not kidnap Titli and that neither he nor Aparna truly know what is real. As they try to leave the resort with heavy luggage, Aparna asks for Titli, and Sushant reiterates that he does not know where Titli is. Aparna counters with a chilling claim: there may be no real 3-year-old, yet Titli does exist within the troubled web of their story.

An old man arrives at the resort, asking after his daughter Titli. Buddhu is puzzled, until the man reveals a photograph of Titli that turns out to be Aparna. It is then revealed that Aparna is a dangerous mental patient who escaped from an asylum. The film crescendos into a tense finale in the forest as the deranged Titli attacks and kills Sushant with a meat cleaver.
