Joe, Karl Beattie wakes up on his 8th birthday, a day that starts with the humdrum rhythm of school life and soon tilts toward something strange. Mum, Tara Morice drops him off late to school, telling him there is a present in his lunch box. The gift is a small, plastic “Miracle Fish” shaped like a fish that sits in his hand and, supposedly, reveals clues about the future. When Joe holds it, the device pronounces one blunt truth about him: he is compassionate.
