Micro-Phonies 1945

Three bungling performers, the Stooges—Larry, Moe, and Curly—work as handymen at radio station KGBY, where a routine repair to connect a pipe to a radiator spirals into chaos. Their antics trigger a confrontation with their boss and set off a cascade of mishaps that irritate a neighboring Italian baritone and pianist, a tension that adds a sharp edge to the day. Seeking refuge, they stumble into the recording room of aspiring singer Alice Van Doren and serendipitously discover her record, Voices of Spring. Impressed by her operatic power, the trio hatches a plan: Curly disguises himself and imitates her voice, hoping to spark attention on the air. The ploy draws the eye of radio host Mrs. Bixby, who hires them for a live performance.

Before the show, a dispute erupts among the Stooges. Moe snaps and, in a misguided bid to safeguard a cherished record, cracks it over Curly’s head. Larry improvises by grabbing a different record—the Lucia Sextet—and misidentifying it as the Sextet from Lucy, forcing the trio into full pantomime to carry the act. The routine unfolds with surprising ease until the real Italian baritone recognizes them and interrupts the performance by unplugging the phonograph, leaving the trio to groan in disappointment. Curly even feigns a loss of his voice as a cover.

Offstage, Alice Van Doren’s genuine talent wins her father’s support for her musical dreams, a development that shifts the family dynamic and hints at a brighter future for her singing career. Meanwhile, the Stooges endure a frosty reception from the party guests, who retaliate by pelting them with records as they hastily retreat, their pride bruised but their misadventures leaving a lasting, comic impression.
