Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers 2004

In a lively reimagining of the classic tale, the story is recounted by the Troubadour, Rob Paulsen, a music-loving tortoise who reads the adventure from a bright comic book. Set in 17th-century France, the film follows four young street urchins—Mickey Mouse Wayne Allwine, Donald Duck Tony Anselmo, Goofy Bill Farmer, and Mickey’s loyal dog Pluto—as they scrape by on the city’s bustling streets, fending off trouble and dreaming big. When the Beagle Boys harass them, they are saved by royal musketeers who gift Mickey one of their iconic hats, sparking a bold idea: the trio will follow in the footsteps of true musketeers and forge their own heroic path.

Years pass, and the three friends work as janitors at the musketeers’ headquarters, a position that places them under the watchful eye of Captain Peg Leg Pete Jim Cummings. Pete considers them unfit for real danger and secretly schemes to overthrow Princess Minnie Mouse Russi Taylor and seize the throne for himself. Minnie’s life is briefly imperiled when an assassination attempt is staged by Beagle Boys who are secretly acting on Pete’s orders. After surviving the attempt, Minnie insists Pete hire actual musketeer bodyguards, setting a trap that ironically tests the trio’s mettle and loyalty. Pete, ever the schemer, assigns the job to Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, assuming they’ll be easy to remove if trouble arises.

On a carriage ride with Minnie and her lady-in-waiting Daisy Duck Tress MacNeille, the trio is ambushed again by the Beagle Boys. Minnie and Daisy are captured, while Donald falters and backs away from danger. Refusing to quit, Mickey and Goofy press on, pursuing the captors to an abandoned tower. In a tense showdown, Donald’s initial cowardice gives way to courage as Mickey and Goofy prevail, rescuing Minnie and Daisy. A tender Beat follows as Mickey and Minnie begin to affirm their growing attraction, adding a hopeful note to the quest.

Pete moves to eliminate the trio one by one as a way to remove any threat to his ambitions. During a grand opera night at the palace, Goofy is lured away from Minnie’s side by Clarabelle Cow April Winchell, Pete’s loyal lieutenant, while Donald is seized by the Beagle Boys, though he manages a narrow escape. A crucial warning from Donald reaches Mickey, who finds himself imprisoned in a flooding dungeon beneath Mont Saint-Michel, a stark reminder of Pete’s ruthless plans to wipe out their chances.

Clarabelle’s heart unexpectedly shifts when she and Goofy share a moment by the river Seine, and she helps him learn of Mickey’s dire situation. As Goofy, with Pluto’s steadfast companionship, heads to the dungeon, Donald’s renewed bravery—urged on by the Troubadour’s stern rebuke of cowardice—combines with Pluto’s loyalty to spark a daring rescue. The trio reunites, and together they set out to save Minnie and Daisy, who are still captive at the opera house.

The climactic confrontation unfolds at Palais Garnier, where the Beagle Boys, with a performer masquerading as Minnie, declare Pete the new King of France. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy arrive with renewed resolve, and an epic onstage battle ensues, pitting quick wits and teamwork against Pete’s crafty schemes. The villains are defeated, Minnie and Daisy are rescued, and the ladies’ heartfelt proclamations of love for Mickey and Donald seal the bond of friendship and loyalty among the group. In a triumphant finale, Minnie officially dubs Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as royal musketeers, empowering the three friends to live out their shared dream with honor, courage, and a little bit of theatrical magic.
