Kolya, a patent department employee at a plant near St. Petersburg, travels to Lykovo for the weekend and dies of a heart attack. In response, the plant administration decides to transport the body home for burial. To handle the arrangements, two men are sent on the trip: Markerants, a wary, ulcer-prone colleague, and Mityagin, a practical, money-minded businessman.

On the way, Mityagin proposes a toast in the dining car for Kolya, for fate, and for their country. The toast sets the tone for a rocky journey, and soon Markerants finds himself handing over all the money collected by the plant for Kolya’s burial to a woman named Lyuba [/actor/evgeniya-dobrovolskaya]. Having lost their travel money, the pair continues with the stiff tucked away in a normal train compartment.

A chance passenger, Eduard [/actor/konstantin-khabenskiy], who has stolen an item worth $50,000 from a factory, drops his enormously heavy suitcase on the dead man’s head. Eduard ends up thinking that he is the murderer behind Kolya’s death. To conceal the evidence, he throws the corpse out the window. The greedy Mityagin seizes the opportunity, demanding money to keep silent about the so-called murderer.

What follows is a tightening spiral as everyone involved finds themselves pursued by both the mafia and the police, turning a routine transport of a corpse into a perilous and unpredictable ordeal. The journey becomes a test of luck, loyalty, and survival, with each character pulled deeper into a web of fear, greed, and shifting alliances.
