Tamil is a young man raised in a village and cared for entirely by his grandfather Venkatasamy after his parents eloped and died, leaving him behind. Twenty-five years later, he works in a Chennai IT company and lives in a sleek, upmarket apartment. At a busy traffic signal, he meets medical student Karthika, whose playful trick to reach the front of the line catches his eye. The moment sparks a connection, and as he follows her, Karthika reciprocates, drawing them into a shared story.

Meanwhile, this [Tamil] finds himself selected for a three-month assignment in the United States. He brings his grandfather to the city so they can spend time together before he leaves, while the old man, rooted in a rustic upbringing, struggles to adapt to the fast pace and modern life of the urban world.

The old man’s well-meaning but disruptive presence leads to several embarrassing moments: he bathes and washes clothes at a public fountain, unsettling Tamil, who keeps silent about it. He even disturbs a date with Karthika, causing a temporary rift between them. The old man’s impulsive nature goes further when he slaps Karthika’s father, an Inspector, for allowing his daughter to wear short clothes in public. Tamil pleads, and the tension eases as the two are forgived, but the friction leaves a mark on their relationship.

Tamil spends long nights working on a project, determined to prove himself. The old man, misreading the situation, treats the laptop as a sandwich grill and sets it on the stove, shattering the device and the work. Tamil is fired, though he hides his anger from the man who unintentionally ruined his chances.

With renewed resolve, Karthika motivates Tamil to complete the project on her computer, and the old man feels deeply guilty and sells his ancestral wedding ring to buy him a new laptop. Tamil thanks him and resumes his effort, ultimately finishing the project and winning back his job.

Parallel to these personal trials, the old man helps a couple elope and marry the same way he did with Tamil’s parents, a gesture that reflects his stubborn, romantic streak. As Tamil heads to a US interview, the old man mocks the US flag at the consulate, triggering a public disturbance that earns them a brief arrest. When they emerge, Tamil’s visa is rejected, and he lashes out at the old man in front of a crowd, a moment he soon regrets.

A girl, Pooja, believes a piece of candy given by the old man is poisoned and faints after eating it. She is rushed to the hospital, and the old man faces public scolding once more. The danger passes thanks to a practical remedy—salt and tamarind water—that helps her vomit and recover. The girl Pooja is saved, and the community’s sentiment toward the old man begins to shift.

When the dust settles, the old man disappears, only to be found in a mentally challenged state. The film closes on a note of reconciliation as Tamil, now older and wiser, regrets his harsh words and embraces his grandfather tightly, a quiet acknowledgment of the love that underpins their fraught, imperfect bond.
