Although injured in combat, Matt Jameson [Jeffrey Hunter] returns home from Korea and rebuilds a quiet life in California as an engineer. He’s unhappily married to Nina Jameson [Stella Stevens], an alcoholic, and his gaze lingers toward his boss’s secretary, Liz Addams [Elaine Devry].
Vince Biskay [David Janssen], a Marine comrade whose life Matt saved, appears with a dangerous but tempting plan: intercept a shipment of $3.5 million in illegal weapons being moved into the United States, a move that could be turned over to authorities for a reward. A tense gun battle erupts at the San Francisco airport as the dictator’s armed men fight to protect the loot. Vince is shot, and Matt ferries him and the stolen money home, where Vince recovers while Nina, in a drunken mood, makes a pass at him.
Matt realizes Vince intends to keep the money rather than return it, and he orders his partner to leave. Nina then suffers a fatal accident that Matt desperately tries to cover up. He is found and beaten by the Central American thugs who are still searching for the cash. Vince ends up with the money but meets an unhappy end along the road. In the end, Matt walks away with Liz, grateful to have survived the perilous ordeal.
