Kelly Hankins (Sean O’Donnell) seems to have it all: he’s a popular high school student, the star pitcher on the baseball team, and he enjoys a seemingly happy relationship with Lisa Weld (Alexandria Deberry), a romance they keep private from her strict father, Reverend Weld (Stephen Tobolowsky). But when Lisa reveals she is pregnant, Kelly faces a crisis that could upend everything he’s worked for. Desperate for a solution, he learns that his Uncle Theus has reportedly managed to transfer an embryo into a male monkey’s abdomen, and he convinces his uncle to try the same procedure on him. The plan is reckless and morally complicated, yet for Kelly it feels like a possible way out of an impossible situation.

The procedure appears to work, and Kelly becomes pregnant. Over the following months, he experiences typical pregnancy symptoms while trying to hide what’s happening from friends and family. Only Ditto (Michael Eric Reid) stands by him, offering quiet support as the world around him grows more suspicious of his odd behavior. The closer he gets to the due date, the more the town begins to notice that something is off about Kelly, and his once-solid social standing begins to crumble. Amid the chaos, the flirtatious Candy keeps pursuing him, adding another layer of tension to the already complicated social dynamics.

Lisa’s confidence in Kelly wavers as the secret strains their relationship. She eventually ends things, unable to bear seeing him mocked and scrutinized. Meanwhile, Milton (Dylan Riley Snyder) starts to suspect that something is seriously wrong with Kelly and brings his concerns to Principal Miller (Eric Wheeler), though the concept of a pregnant boy challenges his beliefs and understanding of the situation. When Lisa reaches out, she begs for reconciliation on the condition that the baby be transferred back to her, leading to a renewed but fragile attempt at repair between the couple.

At the school’s prom, Kelly makes one last bid to win Lisa back, but Milton’s revelations about the pregnancy expose him to public humiliation. Reverend Weld tries to demonize Kelly, but Uncle Theus—standing before the congregation—argues that Kelly’s pregnancy is not a sign of danger but a part of his life that deserves understanding. As graduation approaches, Kelly finds support from his family, including his father, who stands by him and offers quiet encouragement.

Graduation day arrives with an emotional speech that is meant to uplift his classmates. In a dramatic turn, Kelly faints and unexpectedly goes into labor on stage. He is rushed to the hospital, where he awakens to Lisa watching over him. The reveal is joyous and surreal: Kelly has given birth to twins, a boy and a girl. Lisa apologizes for her earlier actions and expresses a desire to raise the twins together. The town’s mood shifts from judgment to support, and even Reverend Weld softens in the face of the community rallying around Kelly. The story closes on a hopeful note, with a sense of acceptance and a family beginning anew.
