What Is Madame About?

The premise of Madame without spoilers.

Catherine Hubscher, who once laundered the shirts of young Napoleon and his troops during the Revolution, falls for Sergeant Lefebvre. When Lefebvre is elevated to the nobility and appointed by Napoleon as the ruler of a vast fief, Madame Sans‑Gene, now a noble herself, struggles to temper her blunt commentary about the new order.
