What Is Madagascar About?

The premise of Madagascar without spoilers.

Running 50 minutes, the film blends poetic resonance with a metaphor for socialist Cuba through an adolescent’s identity search. Laura, a college professor, watches her daughter Laurita quit school, dream of Madagascar, and adopt personas—from heavy‑metal fan to poetic bohemian—until she descends into neurosis, then religious zeal, sheltering ten homeless children in the house she shares with her mother and grandmother.
