Bullabbayi is a man whose affections for his sister-in-law, Rajeswari, shape his sense of duty and his idea of living with integrity. A long-standing property dispute puts Bullabbayi at odds with his half-brother, Veerababu. In a dramatic attempt to rescue a vulnerable girl named Chintamani from a brutal fate at the hands of Veerababu—who plans to sell her to him—the patriarch pays money, takes Chintamani into his care, and places her in his outhouse with instructions that she should depart the next day. But the situation spirals after Veerababu’s men stage an attack on him, and Bullabbayi ends up seducing Chintamani in a moment of peril and confusion.

In a bid to stay true to his own sense of honesty, Bullabbayi reveals everything to his father-in-law and begs him to halt any arranged marriage connected to the scandal. Yet the father-in-law refuses to intervene, leaving Bullabbayi to grapple with the consequences of his actions. Disturbingly, Bullabbayi finds himself confessing the incident to Rajeswari again, not wanting to deceive her who believes him to be pious and flawless. The revelation drives Rajeswari to the brink, and she makes a dramatic attempt on her own life—only to be saved by Bullabbayi.

Despite the turmoil, Rajeswari initially refuses to share a conjugal life with him. A few days later, her father intervenes again, appealing to her sense of honor and urging her to reconsider. Moved by his sincerity and innocence, Rajeswari gradually opens up, allowing him into the bedroom, and the couple begins a seemingly content domestic life.
