Phoebe is a bright university student who struggles to relate to her peers. Her only close friend is her roommate Robin, a person she tends to smother with advice. Robin ultimately leaves on a plane with a stranger she has just met, telling Phoebe that she is too uptight and immature and casually mentioning that she’s never had a boyfriend.

Feeling embarrassed by her own immaturity, Phoebe tries to go on a date, but the outing goes sour. She then finds herself talking with Frazer, her 14-year-old neighbor who mows her lawn.
