Raphaël Ramisse, François Civil, is a student who quietly crafts a science fiction novel during class, afraid to share it with anyone. He quietly harbors feelings for Olivia Marigny, Joséphine Japy, a gifted pianist in the same class, and gradually rewrites his story to include a new character inspired by her. With Olivia’s encouragement, Raphaël rises from anonymity to become a recognized sci‑fi writer, and the two young lovers eventually marry. As time passes, Olivia steps away from her initial path and becomes a school music teacher, while Raphaël leans more and more into his literary world, leaving behind the life they once imagined.

One fateful evening, as Raphaël finalizes the sequel, he makes a controversial choice: he kills off the female character based on Olivia. A fierce quarrel with Olivia follows, and a heavy snowstorm marks the turning point. The next morning, Raphaël awakens in a parallel world where Olivia has never met him and cannot even recall who he is. In this reality, she is a celebrated pianist, while he lives as a literature teacher who never completed his novel. The shock of this new life fuels his longing to return to the world he knows, and he enlists the help of his loyal friend Félix, Benjamin Lavernhe, to uncover the secrets of this split existence and to find a doorway back.

Back in his original world, Raphaël discovers that Olivia is now involved with her manager, Marc Deschanel, Amaury de Crayencour. Under the guise of writing her biography, Raphaël spends more time with Olivia in an effort to win her back. Yet Olivia accepts Marc’s proposal, confessing that she sometimes wishes they had met years earlier. The emotional tug-of-war intensifies as Raphaël tries to influence fate without destroying what they shared.

In a desperate bid to reclaim his life, Raphaël rewrites the sequel again, this time with a different ending, and hands the manuscript to Olivia with the hope she will read it and reverse the reality. As she begins to read and the world seems to tilt back toward the night they argued, Raphaël realizes that perhaps she is happier without him in the long run. He swoops in during a pivotal moment—while Olivia performs on stage—takes back the novel before she can finish it, and chooses to remain in a world where her happiness appears louder and brighter. In the final act, Olivia makes the decision to leave Marc and steps into the arms of Raphaël, sharing a tender kiss that seals their renewed connection and leaves their shared future open to possibility.
