What Is Le Viol About?
The premise of Le Viol without spoilers.
In Marseille, 1974, two Belgian tourists, Nicole and Malia, are brutally attacked and raped. Their assailants falsely claim the women consented, initially avoiding prosecution. Despite the urging of loved ones to move on, Nicole and Malia bravely choose to fight for justice, supported by lawyer Gisèle Halimi. They challenge the legal system, requesting a trial at the assize court. The resulting landmark case, culminating in a verdict on May 8, 1978, redefined rape as a crime, not a minor offense, forever changing legal precedent.
