Pratap Singh Nimbalkar and his wife Sumitra Devi are admired in their rural community for hands-on social work, offering land and shelter to poor farmers. Yet Sumitra Devi faces stigma after nine years of marriage for not bearing a child. A maid urges her to pray at Pandharpur to Lord Vitthal, and Sumitra promises to dedicate her firstborn to the deity if a child arrives. When Sumitra becomes pregnant, she shares the news with Pratap. He is modern-minded and initially skeptical, even traveling to London, but after the baby is born he returns and names the child Prince, with the given name Abhay Singh and the nickname Prince, signaling the weight of tradition on a new generation.

Twenty-five years pass, and Prince returns home after studying abroad. His paternal cousin Sangram emerges as a menacing force, determined to seize farmland from the village through intimidation. Pratap warns Sangram to stop, but the conflict escalates. Sangram exploits the situation by hiring Nandini, Pratap Singh’s secretary, to manipulate Prince into signing questionable property papers. When Prince resists, Sangram’s plan leads to a fatal accident: Prince is killed when a truck crashes into his car, and Sangram moves to take over the land.

Devastated, Sumitra Devi travels to Pandharpur to plead for help from Lord Vitthal. Outside the temple, Mauli—a rough, lookalike of Prince, portrayed by the same actor—appears and confronts the goons harassing the locals. In a dramatic twist, it is revealed that Sumitra Devi had given birth to twins years earlier: one child was sent to the deity, and the surviving son is Mauli, whose bold, street-smart nature contrasts with Prince’s earlier gentleness. With this revelation, Mauli steps forward to confront Sangram and seek revenge, setting the stage for a clash that tests loyalty, family bonds, and the meaning of justice in their village.
