Judith Light stars as Janice Mitchell, a married woman who begins a brief but dangerous affair with a younger doctor, Jack Wagner as Dr. Guy Ellisman. When she ends the affair, Guy responds with stalking and violence, blurring the line between desire and danger. The couple decides to take an island vacation with their daughter Sharon, Tracey Gold as Sharon, who brings along her boyfriend, who turns out to be Guy Ellisman, intensifying Janice’s fear of exposing the truth to her family.

On the trip, tensions simmer as Janice tries to keep the secret, hoping to preserve the life she knows while the risk to her family grows. The trip’s fragile peace collapses when the past catches up in a brutal form: Guy’s pursuit escalates, and Janice must confront the possibility of losing everything to a man who refuses to let go.

The story crescendos at a lighthouse, where Guy makes a desperate bid to eliminate Ross Mitchell, Ben Masters as Ross Mitchell: he is shot, and the danger shifts from secrecy to a violent confrontation. Guy chases Janice to the top of the tower and tries to force a future where they can be together, insisting the death was accidental.

Sharon, having seen through Guy’s facade, acts to stop him by grabbing his gun and revealing to Janice that Guy shot Ross on purpose. A struggle follows: Guy attacks Sharon, throws the gun aside, and violently pushes her to the ground. Realizing the truth about Guy, Janice, in a moment of resolve, pushes him off the lighthouse to his death, condemning the danger he represented.

The route to safety for the family arrives in the form of medical help as Ross survives and the house of cards built on deception begins to crumble. With Guy’s corpse left on the rocky shore, Janice and Sharon reunite with Ross and wait for medical professionals to help, trying to regain a sense of normalcy in the aftermath of fear, guilt, and the hard choices they faced together.
