Lady of the Night 1986

Simona, Serena Grandi and Marco, Fabio Sartor, share a comfortable life in a central Rome apartment, driving a large Lancia, and their routine feels pleasant on the surface. After three years of marriage, however, Simona begins to feel unfulfilled, haunted by the memory of the passion they once shared and wondering if that spark could ever be found again with someone new. In a moment of vulnerability, she lets herself be seduced in the hallway of their building, and later in a public toilet, a choice that unsettles the balance of their relationship and plants the seed of doubt.

A dinner with another couple ends with the four of them traveling to the seaside, where the tension between desire and loyalty flares. Simona finds herself entangled with the other man just as Marco discovers them, a confrontation that turns violent: Marco beats the intruder unconscious and then strikes Simona, driving a wedge between them. She leaves him to seek refuge with a friend from her aerobics class, beginning a fragile phase of separation and longing.

Two attempts at reconciliation follow, but both fail to heal the rift between them. Simona resolves to change the trajectory of their life together: she wants a baby and has her IUD removed, hoping a new chapter might restore their connection. A few days later, a harrowing event unfolds when she is raped in her friend’s apartment by an intruder whose face she never sees. On the floor afterward, she discovers a medallion that had fallen from his neck—the same medallion she had once given to Marco, engraved with his name. Returning the token to him, she finds that the flame of passion they thought had died can still flicker to life, and this discovery rekindles a fragile, complicated bond between them.
