Pothen Upadeshi, a gospel preacher, lives in a house granted by Chandy Muthalaali to help cleanse the area of its evil influence. Pathrose, Mammootty, and Kunjumol are his children, and the family dynamic becomes the beating heart of the story. Pathrose attempts to earn a living through drama, but the performances bring little real money, leaving him and his family hovering on the edge of financial trouble. In a bid to stabilize their prospects, his mother arranges a marriage between Pathrose and Molly, hoping the dowry will secure a modest but crucial source of support, including a mini lorry.

As Pathrose moves into transportation work, he partners with Chandy Muthalaali to haul goods to Sait in Ernakulam, taking advantage of a bribed system that allows them to dodge taxes at check-posts. Yet a more challenging plan soon takes shape: Pathrose decides to bring fish from Ernakulam back to his hometown to sell, hoping for higher profits. This venture hits a snag when the official fish trader, Tharakan, blocks him and snatches away the fish he purchased, delivering a heavy financial blow. Molly lends a hand by pledging her ornaments to cover the losses, and Pathrose fights back, managing to transport fish again, even moving goods directly without Chandy’s knowledge to maximize earnings.

The conflict escalates when Chandy’s men discover Pathrose’s unauthorized moves. They retaliate by burning Pathrose’s lorry and damaging his house, shattering the fragile veneer of stability he had been building. To add personal sting to the setback, Pathrose learns that Molly had already been ditched by Chandy’s son in a past betrayal. The family fractures, and Pathrose is forced to leave his home while his father takes Molly back to her own place.

Yet the tides begin to turn with Mary, a fish vendor, stepping in to provide financial aid that helps Pathrose re-emerge as a fisherman and trader in his own right. Along the way, he encounters Anthony, a drug addict, and the two eventually form a risky partnership that drifts into the drug trade. They even set their sights on arranging Kunjumol’s wedding, adding a layer of complexity and danger to Pathrose’s already precarious life. Upadeshi, now living in an old-age home, refuses to return home for the wedding, insisting on staying apart from the looming upheaval. Molly and Pathrose’s son also come to stay with him in the old-age home, seeking some form of reconciliation.

A final act of betrayal marks the story’s turning point, testing loyalties and ideals to their limit. Yet even as the characters confront disappointment and fracture, the film closes on a note of renewed hope, suggesting that resilience and small acts of trust can steer a stubborn life toward a brighter horizon.
