Bradley Hasling, the CEO of a tech powerhouse named Amygdala, finds himself in the spotlight as he gives an interview regarding the company’s innovative product, Kimi. This smart speaker, though groundbreaking, has raised eyebrows due to its reliance on human monitoring to refine its search algorithms. With an upcoming initial public offering on the horizon, this venture is poised to make Hasling a wealthy man.

On the other side of Seattle is Angela Childs, portrayed by Zoë Kravitz, who works remotely for Amygdala, analyzing data streams from Kimi and adjusting the software accordingly. Struggling with anxiety and agoraphobia stemming from a past trauma, particularly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, her interactions are mostly limited to her romantic partner, Terry, played by Byron Bowers, who lives just across the street.

One fateful day, while at her computer, Angela stumbles upon a shocking recording that captures what seems to be a brutal sexual assault involving a man named Brad. With the help of her colleague, Darius, Angela digs deeper, uncovering the account tied to a woman named Samantha, portrayed by Erika Christensen. As she continues to investigate, she uncovers additional recordings, one hinting at Samantha’s murder, ultimately revealing that Brad is none other than Bradley Hasling himself, and Samantha was his mistress. In a sinister twist, Hasling had commissioned a hit on her via Antonio Rivas, played by Jaime Camil.

Upon reporting the horrifying incident to her superior, Angela is sent to meet Natalie Chowdhury, a higher-up at Amygdala. Initially, she tries to contact Chowdhury over the phone, but is ultimately persuaded to visit her in person under the impression that the FBI would be notified. However, when Angela arrives, she becomes increasingly uneasy as Chowdhury appears hesitant to alert the authorities, referencing Angela’s prior mental health issues.

While waiting for the FBI to arrive, Angela learns from Darius that someone has erased Samantha’s recordings from their servers, prompting her to escape when she notices two suspicious men entering the building. As she makes her way towards the nearest FBI office, she is pursued by Rivas and his henchmen, who track her movements via her phone.

In a tense showdown, Angela is confronted and nearly abducted, but a timely distraction from a group of local protestors buys her a moment to escape. Unfortunately, one of her pursuers, a hacker named Yuri, positions himself to ambush her by predicting her route based on her digital footprint. Captured and taken back to her home by her assailants, Angela faces imminent danger as they plot to stage a murder disguised as a home invasion.

Just when all seems lost, a neighbor named Kevin, played by Devin Ratray, intervenes out of concern for Angela. He is brutally attacked, diverting the intruders’ attention, allowing Angela to leverage her Kimi device to outsmart them momentarily. In a desperate act of survival, she crafts a makeshift weapon from a construction site and ultimately defeats her attackers.

In the final moments, Terry arrives at her side as she calls 911, leading to a resolution that sees Hasling arrested for his crimes. In a closing scene, Angela, now sporting a fresh look, enjoys a peaceful breakfast with Terry outside her apartment, marking a new beginning.
