Wandering karate master Shuhei Sakata (Sonny Chiba) drifts into a rough port town and crosses paths with a young boy named Osamu Mizuki (Tomo Minawa) and his father, the skilled kenjutsu master Rensaku Mizuki (Isao Natsuyagi). The two men sense a shared murderous intent in the others, but they quickly realize that such tension is meaningless and decide not to clash. Osamu offers Mizuki rice balls, and the trio settles into a quiet meal in a warehouse. Shuhei, hungry himself, sits nearby and rests, watching the scene unfold.

To keep Mizuki from aligning with Nishimura-gumi, 7 or 8 members of the Higashida-gumi descend and attack Mizuki. Mizuki responds with brutal efficiency, beating the gang, cutting them down, and tossing them aside, but Osamu is seized in the mêlée. Seeing the danger, Shuhei charges in to rescue Osamu, using his devastating punching and kicking techniques to finish off the remaining attackers and return Osamu to safety. As a small token of gratitude for his help, Mizuki shares a rice ball with Shuhei. Mizuki then quietly tells Osamu, “Don’t rely on others.”

Shuhei, still roaming the town, later lends aid to an injured person drawn into a city-wide yakuza conflict and brings them to Tachibana, the town doctor, the man who treats the wounded with careful, steady hands. Tachibana’s presence signals the growing tension between the Higashida-gumi and Nishimura-gumi, and the townsfolk begin to cry out as the feud threatens to erupt into something far larger. Sakata’s interest in the money—one billion yen worth of drugs—draws him deeper into the fray, hooking him into the dangerous yakuza war and setting the stage for a dramatic, fateful confrontation with Mizuki.
