The film opens with Vasu recounting his childhood and the tight-knit circle of four friends who stand by him: Kanagasabhapathi, Kalyanasundaram, Pattabi, and Venky. Together, they look up to a figure they call Seenu Anna, whose fierce loyalty to friendship becomes a guiding star for all of them. Seenu Anna, however, warns them that marriage could strain even the strongest bonds of camaraderie. This warning plants a serious seed in the group: a shared vow to avoid marriage and preserve their friendship at all costs. Among them, Vasu alone grapples with a different impulse—an openness toward romance that sets him apart from his friends’ resolve.

As years pass, the group’s pact hardens into a rule, and Vasu increasingly finds himself torn between his longing for love and the vow he made. His romantic misfires at school and college are compounded by rumors about his sexuality, rumors that push him toward a drastic plan: to leave his hometown and move to Chennai in search of a love that might prove the vow wrong. In the big city, he ends up staying with Nelson, a dashing but calculating figure who has a long history of courting relationships with wealthy, beautiful women. Nelson becomes a mentor of sorts, with a sly, if morally ambiguous, philosophy about dating: rich girls, he argues, carry fewer expectations and more access to options, making them easier to woo than middle-class girls who are weighed down by pressures and judgments.

Nelson offers Vasu a gateway to that world—a pub membership card that will give him access to an entire social scene where he can meet affluent women. Yet this path is murky, and Vasu’s budding romance with a woman named Deepika unfolds under complicated circumstances. Deepika arrives in an expensive Audi with a male friend, and a dramatic moment follows: the friend collapses from excess drinking. Vasu acts with instinct and kindness, helping Deepika with her companion and staying by her side as they navigate the night. The next day, however, a twist emerges: Deepika cannot remember Vasu because of the prior night’s intoxication, and she initially rejects his advances. Their connection endures, and soon, after a tense rendezvous and some chaotic interference, Deepika begins to reciprocate.

Meanwhile, Vasu’s four friends learn of his romance and react with a mix of concern and confrontation. They threaten him to end the relationship, but when Vasu pretends to be suicidal to win their approval, they feign acceptance while devising schemes to test and torment the pair. Their behavior toward Deepika becomes irritating and intrusive, driving a wedge between her and Vasu. Deepika’s mood darkens as the rift grows deeper, and she starts to question the future she had imagined. The menacing influence of the friends compounds the pressures on the couple, escalating the emotional stakes of their relationship.

As the rift widens, Deepika sinks into depression and feels drawn to a safe, familiar option: marrying a family friend who has been quietly pursuing her for some time. This looming wedding becomes a turning point, pushing Vasu into a period of despair as he wonders whether his dream of a shared life with Deepika was just an illusion. In a bold shift of heart and allegiance, Vasu’s friends decide that the only way to restore happiness for their friend is to intervene—if they can’t save the romance, they will fight to give it another chance. They hatch a series of plans to halt the wedding, driven by genuine concern for their friend’s well-being and a stubborn belief in the power of their bond.

The tension culminates in a dramatic stability: the wedding is ultimately stopped, and the course of the story tilts toward a different, hopeful future. Deepika steps toward fate with Vasu, and the couple begins a life together that is quiet, resilient, and anchored in the journey they have shared. In a genuine reversal of their earlier turbulence, Vasu and Deepika establish a life that blends affection with the memories of those who kept faith with them. The narrative closes on a note of enduring connection: Vasu and Deepika, now united, remain in touch with his friends, illustrating a bond that has evolved but never truly disappeared.
