Viswanathan is an arrogant, money-minded estate owner who lives in a grand bungalow called Chinnamalai Estate near Pollachi. His world centers on wealth and status, and his son, Chellappa, longs to prove himself as a filmmaker, often clashing with his father’s pride. Viswanathan’s daughters, Kanchana and Nirmala, return home after completing their studies in Madras, and the family dynamics begin to shift as the siblings navigate love, tradition, and expectations.

During a sightseeing trip, a battered car driven by Ashok, the estate’s assistant manager, crashes into the sisters’ car. A heated quarrel ensues, and the sisters make Viswanathan fire him. Ashok, humiliated and embittered, takes to the idea of reclaiming his dignity by camping outside the bungalow and staging a strike. In the midst of this, Nirmala accidentally drops a bucket on Ashok’s head. Feeling guilty, she goes to his tent to apologize, and a tender relationship blossoms between them, even as they worry about the chasm that their backgrounds create.

Ashok realizes that his poverty makes him seem unfit as a prospective match, so he turns to a practical ruse: he enlists a friend who can pose as a wealthy father. The friend, Vasu, arrives at Chinnamalai in disguise as a rich, old man named Chidambaram. When Kanchana is introduced to this “Chidambaram,” the truth behind the disguise threatens to complicate everyone’s plans. It becomes clear that Ashok’s love is for Nirmala, not Kanchana, which eases some tensions, but the deception continues to ripple through the family.

In parallel, Chellappa stages his own dream project by starting a film production house named Oho Productions. Without credible financing, he takes on the project himself and tries to solicit funds from his father via the disguise of Chidambaram. He also casts the estate manager’s daughter, Meenalochni, as the heroine, and he chooses Ashok to contribute to the screenplay, asking the “Chidambaram” character to back the venture. As the film progresses awkwardly and stalls, Meenalochni’s father pushes Chellappa toward an arranged marriage with Meenalochni. Chellappa initially resists but eventually accepts, feeling he has little choice.

When a short trip unfolds, “Chidambaram” reveals his true identity to Viswanathan’s daughters, who decide to go along with the ruse for the moment. Viswanathan, convinced that Ashok is the sole heir of a wealthy family, presses Kanchana to marry him. She refuses, while Nirmala accepts the match, even though she is entangled with Ashok’s genuine feelings. The arrival of Sachidanandam, Vasu’s father and a buyer of a nearby estate, adds another layer of tension as he and Viswanathan learn of their shared history.

As the truth behind the impersonation surfaces, Sachidanandam becomes more cautious about the marriages that loom over the family. He travels back to Madras to make arrangements, and when he discovers no word from his son, he contemplates canceling the union. Just in time, Vasu makes a phone call to approve the match, ensuring that the plan stays alive. A twist of fate leads to a further complication when Sachidanandam’s investigations uncover potential improprieties.

A sequence of events culminates in a dramatic police confrontation: Vasu and Ashok are taken into custody, and the truth behind the impersonation is placed under scrutiny. Yet, as Sachidanandam reaches the station and the real dynamics come to light, the case deflates, and he withdraws his complaint. With the couples unwilling to part with their beloveds, Viswanathan finally recognizes the sincerity of their love and gives his reluctant blessing for the marriages to proceed, bringing the family’s conflicts to a close.

Overall, the narrative intertwines ambition, romance, and family duty within a community that weighs wealth against genuine affection.
