Jimmie Lunceford and His Dance Orchestra (1936): Cast

In a fiery opening, Satan declares that rhythm is returning to life. The scene shifts to a soundstage where Jimmie Lunceford, dressed in black‑tie tuxedo, leads his dance orchestra. He proclaims “rhythm is our business,” launching a number featuring vocal, sax, bass and trumpet solos. Myra Johnson delivers an animated rendition of “You Can’t Pull the Wool Over My Eyes,” followed by the Three Brown Jacks tap‑dancing. The segment closes with two up‑tempo pieces as saxophonists tap and horn players shed their coats to form an improvised percussion group.
