Yograj Singh is a hard-working farmer in Punjab who clings to village life and the routines of his daily days. He shares a home with his brother-in-law, Kokey Singh, a relationship that frames his quiet, sometimes strained, day-to-day existence. His world is upended when his son, Varun, returns from Mauritius after completing his studies. Varun loves the island life so much that he resists the idea of coming back to help with the family farm, a trait that fills Yograj with frustration and concern about the lineage and future of the Mehta family line. Varun had only come home for a vacation, and now he leaves again, returning to Mauritius, where he continues to drift away from the expectations of his father.

Once in Mauritius, Varun lodges with Karan, a fellow villager who shares his roots and keeps him company as he navigates another life halfway around the world. At a wedding in Mauritius, Varun crosses paths with Riya, a woman bound to a wheelchair who speaks softly but carries a strong sense of independence. Riya’s world is defined by love for her father, a man who is wheelchair-bound, and who has become the center of her reasons to rethink marriage. Varun, who has no surviving parents, sees Riya’s family as a potential anchor, and his offer to stay with her becomes a significant turning point in the story. Soon after, Riya’s parents warm to Varun, and the couple’s bond deepens into an engagement that seems to promise stability and belonging.

Meanwhile, Karan is dating Sonam, a young woman who longs for marriage and is pressing Karan to take the plunge. She hopes herUS-returned brother, Tommy, can advocate with Sonam’s conservative parents. Tommy’s own history—recently released from a central Mauritius prison—adds a tense undercurrent to the wedding plans, as everyone weighs trust, loyalty, and the true meanings of family ties.

Back in Mauritius, Yograj decides to seek a fresh start of his own. He travels to Mauritius, moves into a bungalow next to Vinod, the owner of the property who also serves as a landlord, and crosses paths with a new life that threatens the quiet of Yograj’s retirement. Varun is startled to see his father-in-law take up residence nearby, and with Karan by his side, Varun begins to juggle two lives: he spends mornings jogging and interviewing for jobs, but he spends afternoons and evenings visiting Yograj and then slipping away to be with Riya. The dual existence continues as Varun uses the side gate that connects the two homes, a gate whose squeak becomes an unofficial soundtrack to his nocturnal escapades.

Kokey observes these late-night visits with growing concern, and his suspicions lead him to incorrectly conclude that Yograj is pursuing Ruchi, one of Vinod’s tenants. To fuel the tension and to test the cracks of this tangled life, Varun plays a dangerous game by stoking jealousy and manipulating circumstances. He engineers a joint effort between Ruchi and Yograj to stage a surprise anniversary party for Vinod, which only fans the flames of suspicion in Vinod’s mind. Vinod reacts by demanding that Yograj vacate, but Riya steps in to explain that the two were merely planning the party together, not acting on any affair.

The plot thickens as it’s revealed that Yograj has a long-time friend in Mauritius who works as a jailer, and this friend knows more about Varun’s world than anyone suspects. Tommy learns that Karan is Varun’s brother and discovers the truth about Varun’s family history through Khatter, a mutual friend who helped Yograj settle in Mauritius when he first visited. As the truth comes to light, Tommy is drawn into a plan that aims to use the wedding as a lever of revenge against Riya’s family.

Tommy’s confrontation with Vinod and Ruchi becomes a catalyst for more scheming. He presses for a confrontation and a change in plans, using the fear of lost wealth to push Sonam’s parents toward an arranged alliance with Karan. Despite Tommy’s reveal of his own past and Karan’s marriage, Sonam’s parents remain determined to move forward with the arranged match between Sonam and Karan, planning the wedding for the following month. The couple’s future appears set, but the delicate balance of loyalties is shattered when Varun and Yograj’s conflict comes to a head.

One fateful night, Yograj discovers Varun and Riya together at Varun’s window, and he confronts his son with a stark ultimatum: end the affair or return to India. Varun tells Karan about the confrontation, and they decide to push further, hoping to provoke Yograj. Yograj, repulsed by what he perceives as a moral betrayal, contemplates leaving Mauritius, but Khatter invites him to his son’s wedding instead. In a cruel twist of timing, Karan is set to marry Sonam at the same venue, a setup designed to teach someone a lesson.

The ceremony scene becomes a chaotic clash of mistaken identities and hidden truths. Yograj calls Riya and her parents to the venue, intending to halt the wedding, and Tommy arrives as well, complicating matters further. The truth finally comes to light in a dramatic revelation: Varun is Yograj’s son, and Varun had lied to Riya’s family about having no family at all. The misdirections and emotions collide in a flurry of confusion, accusations, and reconciliations, forcing everyone to confront the real meaning of family and belonging.

In the end, the layers of deception begin to peel away, leaving the characters to face the consequences of their choices. The story remains anchored in the tension between duty and desire, tradition and modern life, and the complex web of relationships that stretch across two continents. The film closes on a note that underscores the persistence of family ties, the costs of keeping secrets, and the slow, sometimes messy, process of finding one’s place—whether in a small Punjabi village or a bustling Mauritius neighborhood.
