In a playful retelling, Charlie Brown recounts the tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin to his sister, Sally Brown, who dismisses an alternate option, War and Peace, due to its weight.
In this version, the town is plagued by a mouse infestation rather than rats, a choice Sally defends by substituting mice as the pests. The rodents, surprisingly lively, engage in sports and dancing, unsettling the townspeople as they go about their days. To deal with the problem, The Mayor hires the legendary “Pied Piper Beagle,” portrayed by Snoopy, with a promise of a year’s supply of dog food as payment. With his concertina in hand, Snoopy leads the mice out of town, turning a crisis into a whimsical procession.
But trouble brews when the mayor refuses to honor the contract, reneging on payment despite the signed agreement. In response, Snoopy uses his music as leverage, drawing the mayor and his officials away, effectively teaching them a hard, musical lesson.
The tale wraps with Charlie Brown finishing the story, while Sally remains skeptical about its plausibility in real life.
Outside, the scene shifts to the doghouse, where Snoopy resumes playing, and a small party of kids—Linus, Lucy, Franklin, and Peppermint Patty—joins in, dancing to the catchy rhythm. The upbeat moment takes a turn as Lucy, growing frustrated, orders Charlie Brown to step in and stop Snoopy before the merriment goes too far.
