The girls are excited; the boys, feeling “drafted,” dully board the bus. At camp Charlie becomes captain of the boys’ side. The girls dominate the swim race, and the boys scrape a single run in softball, with the other contests similarly one‑sided. Later the boys gather around a campfire, lamenting their miserable day.
