In 1969 a young author embarks on an essay about a celebrated Polish writer forced into exile in the 1950s, who spent the rest of his life abroad. As he painstakingly reconstructs his subject’s biography and even his physical likeness, the writer becomes increasingly absorbed, ultimately losing his own sense of self in the process.
