During the reign of Semiramis Yvonne Furneaux, the Assyrian empire basks in a rare, almost mythic splendor, and the queen orders the creation of a grand new city that will come to be known as Babylon. A young woman of the royal court, driven by sharp political instincts, finds herself drawn to Kir John Ericson, the king of the Dardanians who has been enslaved after a fierce confrontation. Kir is compelled into servitude and brought to the Assyrian capital along with other captives, where General Omnos Germano Longo presents his trophies to King Minurte Renzo Ricci.

Semiramis uses every ounce of her influence to persuade Minurte to offer Kir to her and to grant him a domain of his own, a tactical move that ties Kir’s fate to hers. With the help of Kir and the enslaved workforce, she oversees the labor that will transform slaves’ labor into a city that grows into Babylon, a symbol of both beauty and power. All the while, Semiramis orchestrates a web of political machinations, weaving alliances with Kir and Omnos as part of a grand plan to overthrow Minurte and claim the throne for herself.

The conspirators eventually manage to separate Kir from the queen’s presence and convince him that Semiramis has betrayed him with another man, igniting a trusted ally’s furious question of loyalty. Enraged, Kir joins the conspiracy against his beloved, drawn by a mix of pride, love, and suspicion. When the truth surfaces, Semiramis answers by poisoning Kir with a cup, a calculated act aimed at preventing any rival from seizing control through him.

The tragedy deepens at the funeral, where the conspirators strike, and Semiramis herself is felled by an arrow. In the end, the bodies of the two star-crossed lovers are burned together, their passion and fate sealed in death as the city of Babylon continues to rise from the ashes of their tumultuous union.
