How I Fell in Love with a Gangster (2022): Cast & Ratings

In terms of art and craft, the film shows a strong visual sensibility. Reviewers commend the cinematography, production design, and well‑executed camera work, noting vivid lighting and symbolic composition. Several critiques, however, cite over‑styled lighting and a lack of selective editing that hampers flow. Overall, the artistic choices are respected despite occasional excess, yielding a solid yet imperfect technical presentation.

Character and emotion receive uneven treatment across reviews. Some viewers highlight nuanced performances, especially the lead’s ability to generate empathy and depth. Others argue that many supporting figures remain one‑dimensional and that the chemistry feels forced or adolescent. The acting is generally competent, yet the limited character development and occasional flat portrayals temper the overall impression of the ensemble.

Story and flow are the most contested aspects of the film. While a few critics praise the engaging central narrative and its lingering impact, many point to a three‑hour runtime that feels arduous, with pacing lapses and uneven storytelling. Repetitive scenes and a lack of concise structure contribute to a sense of narrative fatigue, resulting in a mixed assessment of the plot’s cohesion.

The sensory experience stands out as a highlight. Reviewers consistently note a compelling soundtrack, with specific praise for music that aligns with visual moments, and an effective use of color and lighting to set tone. Though some comment on artificial staging, the overall auditory and visual design is regarded as immersive and well‑matched to the film’s mood.

Rewatch value is moderate. Certain viewers find the film memorable, citing lasting emotional resonance and a desire to revisit its atmospheric scenes. Conversely, many cite the length and pacing as deterrents to repeat viewings, describing the experience as tiring after the first watch. The mixed feedback results in a modest inclination to recommend additional viewings.
