On a sun-drenched summer day, Ryan Chess Troy Doherty is brilliant with numbers but socially awkward when it comes to dating, especially with his vivacious co-worker, Carly Alvarez Flavia Watson. He has spent the season pining for her, quietly hoping for a moment that might change everything and give him a chance he’s never dared to imagine.
As the season nears its end, the store where they both work announces it will close at the end of the day, and Carly is set to move away for MIT, a full ride that feels like the final nail in his chances. The timing couldn’t be worse, and Ryan’s feelings feel both urgent and fragile, tugging him between fear of rejection and a stubborn resolve to do something meaningful.
Determined not to lose both his job and the shot at happiness, Ryan hatches a bold plan to save the store by day’s end. He rounds up his closest ally, his best friend Jeremy Zedrick Restauro, and enlists the help of his co-workers Ellen Raychel Diane Weiner and Gary Ross Mackenzie. Together they mount a last-minute, high-energy push, pulling together clever small wins, organizing a rapid sale, and using every trick in the book to turn the day into a victory for the store and for Ryan’s quiet hope that Carly might notice him in a new light.
But the day’s rhythm is upended when the handsome—and potentially sinister—regional manager, Brady Alex Ashbaugh, arrives to oversee operations. Brady claims he’s there to roll up his sleeves and pitch in, yet Ryan can’t shake the sense that there’s more to his presence than meets the eye. The tension spikes as Ryan discovers a painful truth: Carly and Brady were once romantically involved, a revelation that threatens to derail his careful plan and rattles his confidence just when he needs it most.
Still, Ryan refuses to submit to doubt. He leans into his big brain, improvising, calculating risks, and staying a step ahead of Brady’s moves. The day becomes a test of nerves, wit, and loyalty as he moves to keep the team focused and to uncover the real motive behind Brady’s arrival. The more he learns, the more he realizes that the store’s fate—and Carly’s future—might hinge on exposing Brady for the manipulator he may be.
In the end, Ryan’s resolve and cleverness begin to turn the tide. His plan gains momentum, the clues about Brady come into sharper focus, and the truth about Brady’s intentions comes to light. The confrontation is inevitable, and the moment when Brady’s scheme unravels also becomes the moment Carly sees Ryan for who he truly is—intelligent, earnest, and capable. As the day closes, the store is saved, the villain exposed, and Carly’s feelings crystallize: she falls in love with Ryan, recognizing the depth of his character and the courage it took to act when it mattered most.
