An American exchange student in Ireland, Rich Evans (Kurt Russell), becomes embroiled in Cold‑War intrigue after a dying man entrusts him with a message for his older brother, a secret U.S. intelligence officer. Rich and his friend are later seized by an Eastern Bloc operative posing as embassy staff, who hopes they will lead him to a scientist planning to defect. The three‑part story aired on Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color and was later re‑edited for European cinemas as The Secret of Boyne Castle.

Rich Evans, Kurt Russell, is an American exchange student at the Leinster School in Ireland when a bleeding man drives onto the campus, collapsing near Rich and delivering a message for his brother Tom Evans, Glenn Corbett, before they die. Rich, along with his friend Sean O’Connor, Patrick Dawson, are then intercepted and whisked away by a man who claims to be from the American Embassy, only to reveal himself as an East Bloc agent in disguise. What follows is a tense chase as Rich and Sean manage a daring escape and make a crucial connection with Tom, who turns out to be an American intelligence agent and not the Irish sales representative for an American steel company that Rich had mistakenly believed him to be.
The trio boards a flight to London that Tom arranged, hoping to outpace their pursuers. But the danger intensifies when they spot several enemy agents and, in a dramatic twist, locate Tom just in time as other agents have grabbed him. They press on to Boyne Castle, where the message indicated that vital information about a defecting East Bloc scientist is hidden. Yet the operation quickly unravels: Tom is imprisoned, alongside the real Lord Boyne, while East Bloc agents have replaced Lord Boyne and his staff with impostors.
Rich is the key to unlocking the mystery. He locates the crucial information about the defecting scientist, but when he attempts to relay it by calling the U.S. embassy, he realizes the conniving listeners are somehow tapped into the line. Undeterred, the imprisoned group among them feeds Tom crucial ideas for a bold escape. In a gripping finale, Rich, Tom, and their allies stage a high-stakes breakout using a dory and a glider. They race against time to intercept the East Bloc agents before they can seize the scientist, turning a perilous trap into a narrow, hard-won victory.
Throughout, the film blends brisk espionage suspense with a sense of international cat-and-mouse games, as ordinary teenagers become pivotal players in a covert operation. The stakes are personal, the pace is brisk, and the teamwork among Rich, Tom, and Sean keeps the tension mounting from the quiet start at the Leinster School to the dangerous rescue at the castle and beyond.
